On a Mac with Apple silicon or an Intel-based Mac with the Apple T2 Security Chip, use Erase Assistant to reset your Mac to factory settings before you trade it in or sell it. If you try to install a macOS that is older than the version currently installed, the installer will say that it is too old to be opened on this version of macOS. If a macOS isnt compatible with your device, the App Store or installer will let you know.
